Sources & Corrections

How we review Pennsylvania school district calendar sources and keep pages useful for families.

Primary Sources

Pennsylvania School Calendar works from public, district-published calendar information. Preferred sources include official district calendar pages, board-approved PDF calendars, district news releases, academic calendar documents, and official calendar files published by the district or public charter network.

The District & Schools Overview is sourced separately from the Pennsylvania Department of Education. Enrollment, grades served, county, and schools-reporting-enrollment figures use the 2025–2026 October 1 public school enrollment report, while school-directory access points to PDE EdNA. Each overview identifies its data year and verification date; these facts are not inferred from the district calendar.

Districts with 20 or fewer schools reporting enrollment list every school in that report, without favoring elementary, middle, or high schools. Larger districts show enrollment and grade-band counts without sampling ordinary school names. A campus is named separately only when a verified source shows an independent calendar, different opening or closure dates, or another clear schedule difference from the district calendar.

Source Priority

When more than one source exists for the same district and school year, we use the clearest current district-published source first. A board-approved or adopted calendar PDF usually carries more weight than an older news post. A district calendar page that links to the current PDF usually carries more weight than a third-party copy of the same calendar.

If a district publishes a newer official calendar after we have already summarized an earlier version, the newer district source should replace the older one. We avoid treating social posts, copied PDFs on unrelated sites, or search-result snippets as the final source when a district-hosted calendar is available.

What We Summarize

District pages focus on dates families often need for planning:

FAQ Publication Rule

District pages do not receive an automatic or minimum number of FAQs. Reviewers may retain an existing question or manually add one when verified district data contains a material calendar condition that Key Dates, Extended Time Off, the monthly calendar, and calendar buttons do not explain clearly. Examples include staggered grade-level starts, conditional make-up dates, school-versus-office closures, and campus-specific schedule differences. A page may publish no FAQ section.

What We Leave Out

A full district calendar can include many items that are useful to staff but less useful for family planning. We do not try to reproduce every grading-period marker, testing window, board meeting, athletic event, campus-only event, or staff-only detail on the main district page.

Instead, the district page keeps the student-facing dates that change household planning: school openings and closings, student holidays, multi-day breaks, early release days, bad-weather makeup notes, and calendar-track differences when they affect attendance.

Official, Draft, and Projected Labels

Most pages are marked official because the dates come from district-published calendar material. Some future calendars may be marked draft or projected when a final adopted district source is not yet available. Those labels are meant to help families understand how much confidence to place in the page before using it for travel, childcare, or custody planning. Our full explanation is available in the official, draft, and projected calendar guide.

Update Process

When a district publishes a new calendar or updates an existing one, we review the public source, update the district page, and show the latest page update date where practical. Some districts revise calendars after initial publication, so important dates should always be checked against the current district source before final decisions are made.

Corrections

If you believe a calendar page needs correction, send us the district name, school year, date in question, and a link to the official source. We review correction requests against district-published documents before changing a page.

A useful correction includes the exact district name, the school year, the date or event that needs review, and the district URL where the newer information appears. If the issue involves a campus calendar, please include the campus name because some districts publish separate elementary, secondary, or program calendars.

Correction requests can be sent through our contact page.
